Cyber Essentials & the IASME Standard

iasme

The Cyber Essentials Scheme is a recognised standard in IT security. It was created in 2014 by the UK Government with the help of National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and is recommended to ensure that businesses meet the minimum standards for information security.

The scheme alongside the IASME standard governance allows businesses to apply best practice to their IT security, and by implementing these measures you can significantly reduce the vulnerability of your business. The scheme covers five areas of IT security controls and focuses on preventing attacks originating from the Internet.

How does it work?

The scheme is based upon a set of five controls which, when correctly deployed, will provide you with a level of protection from the most common cyber security threats. These controls apply to a defined scope, which could be part or all of your company, depending upon your needs.

Boundary Firewalls

Ensuring boundary controls are appropriately configured to prevent unauthorised access.

Malware Protection

Ensuring that virus and malware protection is installed, enabled and is it up to date.

Secure Configuration

Ensuring that systems are configured in the most secure way, aligning with business requirements.

Patch Management

Up to date supported versions of applications are installed and patches by the vendor applied.

Access Control

Ensure that those who should have access to systems are enabled to do so and at the appropriate level.
